Are you a department of the City?
No, we are an independent not-for-profit charity dedicated to the heritage of the city of Mississauga. However, we have a close working relationship with the City, who is one of our greatest supporters and often collaborate on projects together despite not being part of the City. As a charity, we rely on community support. To learn more how you can become a heritage hero, see here.
What type of history do you specialize in?
We specialize in everything Mississauga. Whether it happened 10,000 years ago or yesterday, we care! It is for this reason that we take a holistic approach to heritage, by gathering stories of today, participating in culture, researching people and places long ago, and everything in between. No question is too big or too small! See our full list of heritage and cultural programs here.
I want X building designated as a heritage property, can you help? X heritage building is being torn down, what can you do?
As we are not a part of the City, we cannot help with these matter. What we can do is help you learn more about a heritage structure or building and the land it is on to help understand its value. Please see the City of Mississauga’s page on Heritage Properties here.
Do you charge for your research services?
No, we do not charge members of the public who may have research inquires related to the history of the people and places in Mississauga. We are happy to help with any inquiries you may have. Learn more here.
How can I get your tour pamphlets, educational booklets and comics? And are they free?
All our tour pamphlets, educational booklets and comics are free of charge. You can pick them up at The Grange during the week, or in the kiosks outside The Grange after hours. If you are a teacher and wanting to give them out to your students, you can arrange to pick them up in large quantities by contacting [email protected] They are a great way to inject local history into the classroom! We hope you enjoy.
